The OTC derivative market is the largest market for derivatives, and is largely unregulated with regard to disclosure of details in between the parties, because the OTC market is made up of banks and other highly advanced parties, such as hedge funds.
According to the Bank for International Settlements, who initially surveyed OTC derivatives in 1995, reported that the "gross market worth, which represent the cost of changing all open contracts at the prevailing market rates, ... increased by 74% since 2004, to $11 trillion at the end of June 2007 (BIS 2007:24)."
