Products such as swaps, forward rate arrangements, unique alternatives and other exotic derivatives are nearly always traded in this method. The OTC derivative market is the biggest market for derivatives, and is mostly uncontrolled with respect to disclosure of details between the parties, considering that the OTC market is made up of banks and other highly sophisticated celebrations, such as hedge funds.
According to the Bank for International Settlements, who initially surveyed OTC derivatives in 1995, reported that the "gross market price, which represent the cost of replacing all open contracts at the dominating market prices, ... increased by 74% since 2004, to $11 trillion at the end of June 2007 (BIS 2007:24)."
