Products such as swaps, forward rate contracts, unique alternatives and other exotic derivatives are usually traded in this method. The OTC acquired market is the biggest market for derivatives, and is largely uncontrolled with respect to disclosure of information between the celebrations, because the OTC market is comprised of banks and other extremely sophisticated parties, such as hedge funds.
According to the Bank for International Settlements, who first surveyed OTC derivatives in 1995, reported that the "gross market worth, which represent the expense of changing all open agreements at the dominating market prices, ... increased by 74% because 2004, to $11 trillion at the end of June 2007 (BIS 2007:24)."
